About Us

Portia's passion for horses began as a toddler, when she had to settle for the giant tortoise at the Oakland Zoo to be her noble steed.  She began formal lessons at the age of six and was training young prospects by the age of twelve.  She has shown Saddlebreds, Morgans and Arabians since 1985.  Portia attended Stephens College to pursue a degree in equestrian science and graduated with honors in 1997.  She then returned home and worked from the family barn while helping to care for her terminally ill mother.  In 2000, Portia returned to Stephens as the saddleseat trainer/instructor and had the privilege of teaching equine management and nutrition among other subjects in the classroom.

In  2002, Portia again returned to Georgia to spend time with and tend to her mother.  In 2004 she met Thomas, and they married December 03, 2005.  Since their marriage, Thomas and Portia purchased the breeding stallion Coosa, and several young mares.  2006 marked the launch of Imagine Nation Horseworks as a fully operational breeding and sales barn.

Portia uses her wealth of knowledge and experience in order to breed, raise and train only the finest show prospects.  Ongoing research into lineage with an emphasis on talent, natural ability, intelligence, stamina, beauty and soundness is coupled with state-of-the art nutrition and care for each foal conceived at INH.  The emphasis at INH is on quality and excellence.  Portia is again offering her services as trainer and instructor to the public, and is looking forward to an excellent 2008 show season with her family, friends and clients.

Thomas is a full-time EMT and volunteers with local fire and rescue in addition to running his Woody Pet Dealership--ever the multi-tasker, he even has a cabinet construction business as well!  He is also an integral part of the management of Imagine Nation Horseworks.  The expansion and renovation of the barns at INH are an ongoing project for Thomas.  Thomas has over 20 years of experience with horsemanship, as his step-grandfather is the owner/operator of a successful Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred breeding and sales barn in Jesup, GA.
